What Goes Around
In the House, Suddenly Righteous Republicans -- By Dana Milbank
Thirty-one-year-old Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) . . . packed a whole lot of chutzpah when he walked into the House TV gallery yesterday to demand that the new Democratic majority give the new Republican minority all the rights that Republicans had denied Democrats for years.
here is the article.
***
Back when the Republicans were designing all those muzzles for the minority party, I wondered aloud at their shortsightedness. Hmmmmmm-- Was this their plan all along?
Meanwhile, the Dems had better grow a backbone fast. If they can't stand up to Cindy Sheehan, how the heck will they stand up to the Republicans?

Repugs knew they could get away with it.

We're going to hear day in and day out from Repugs on Big Pharma Limbaugh's show, Hannity, O'Reilly, Malkin, Coulter, etc ad nauseum how "republicans aren't being treated fairly" and how "partisan" Democrats are.

Hopefully the public will see through the bullshit but we may have to remind everyone just how sick and twisted the Repugs have behaved over the past 12 years in Congress.

Tom Delay anyone?

The Republicans are the ones who ENACTED the measures that stole all the power from the minority party. Surely people's memories aren't that short.

I DO think the GOP'ers should be given _some_ power -- after all, their constituents elected em so they could govern.

but, the Dems could, you know, take some time-- appoint a commission, take the issues under advisement, etc. etc. -- give em back the powers one by one, slow and easy.

let em squirm for a while. :)

Personally, I enjoyed watching the hypocrites snivel. From what i understand, the GOP standard rules apply only to the items on the 'first 100 hours' agenda, after which they will relax the rules. Had Pelosi not adopted GOP rules, the initial legislation would likely have taken 100 days, not 100 hours, due to GOP obstruction.

TC, I liked your comment about Cindy Sheehan. Perhaps the Dems had trouble standing up to her, because she serves as their conscience.

well, I WOULD like to see the votes to begin investigations into high crimes and misdemeanors go through _before_ the rules are relaxed.

though it'll be tough, I do think the Rep's should be let into the tent WHILE the investigations are underway.
then, if they hamper the investigations, that needs to be put out there front and center for everyone to see.

TC, that sounds good to me.
