Oh. My. God.

Would someone come over here and put Block Thought on my brain? Please? I just keep coming up with these ideas that put Bush&Cheney in the driver’s seat and the rest of us tied up, gagged and blindfolded in the trunk of the car.

As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve studied the Third Reich since I was in my early teens. I don’t know why the fascination, but there you are.

In many, many of the accounts authors have stated something to the effect, ‘Hitler and his henchmen couldn’t have gotten away with what they were doing if the country hadn’t been at war.’

As most of us [except maybe the 23%] know by now, immediately after 9/11 White House top advisors were ordered to find a connection between the attack and Iraq. When they didn’t, one was manufactured. The American people were given, in succession, at least 3 separate reasons for going to war in Iraq. When one was shown to be fallacious another was trotted out for inspection. The final justification wasn’t, as the others had been, anything to do with Hussein’s having designs on this or any other country. The contention that he was a Bad Man wasn’t disputable— and that was the pretext under which we were dragged, many of us kicking and screaming, into war. But—if that were truly a reason for going to war, this country would have been embroiled in constant combat for its entire history. The world is filled with Bad Men in high places. We don’t generally trouble ourselves with taking them down. Why this one?

Then, the ‘strategic planning’ began. With rose-colored glasses firmly in place, the administration told us that the troops would be home by Christmas, that they would be greeted as liberators, that everything would be just fine and not to worry our pretty little heads about the war. They then proceeded to take too few troops, too poorly equipped to be effective, into Iraq. The troops seemed to be under orders to allow the Iraqis to destroy the infrastructure of their own country. The orders may not have been explicit— but accounts began trickling out that a hands-off approach when it came to looting and destruction seemed to be the order of the day.

As anyone outside the administration [and, arguably, within the administration as well] could have predicted, the most powerful armed forces on the planet got bogged down in a war with a much smaller country. The whole operation made this giant much more vulnerable to attack than it had, originally, been.

As each objective was reached [remember ‘Mission Accomplished’?] the goal posts were moved.

Meanwhile, the search for bin Ladin was quietly called off.
^^^
Now, fast forward to today:

A couple of weeks ago, Bush quietly signed the National Security/Homeland Security Order giving himself dictatorial powers if, in the assessment of the president, a threat to national security is perceived.

I believe this administration is capable of perceiving an imminent election as a threat to national security. However, they know that the rest of us don’t see eye-to-eye with them on this matter. So they will hunt around for something we could, conceivably, believe to be a threat and the invisibility cloak will be thrown off to reveal Voldemort beneath.
^^^
Someday in the future, I predict, some author will pen the words, ‘‘Bush, Cheney and their henchmen couldn’t have gotten away with what they were doing if the country hadn’t been at war.’

Great post! I'll come back later to add a real comment...I've been on the computer too long and have a very impatient granddaughter who wants to go for a swim.

See ya later!

Part of Bush's plan was to put the US into a state of perpetual war.

Tomcat is right, by design for his NWO we are and will be in perpetual war. I just retrieved for you something I wrote a few years ago. When I was reading it in regards to Saudi Arabia and Pakistan I could only say Whoa! after what I wrote today.
Bush is well on his way and will not be stopped period. I can't stand those two expletives. Anyway here it is!
Regardless, no one can stop what Bush started when he diverted from the so called war on terror to attack Iraq to start to implement his new middle east order.
Failure was a given from the start and no one can stop this breakdown now. This is still just getting started and will get a hell of a lot worse and spread throughout the entire middle east. Then it gets worse!
Bush will also go against his own party then he can say to Iraq I told you I wouldn't abandon you and I didn't. After we leave he will also stupidly insist that if we had stayed we would have won but no way in hell!
He had a plan from the beginning and no one is going to alter its end now!
From 9/11 he has been following a plan. Fighting terrorism was not it. It was just the reason he needed to attack Iraq and start to implement his new middle east and world order.
As you may remember, Bush was looking for something to happen that would put the country and the world behind what he already had plans to do and it wasn't fighting terrorism as he wanted you to think. 9/11 gave him that something. He has been lying and misleading right from the beginning.
He had plans right from the beginning to establish a new middle east order.
He used the excuse of 9/11 to attack Iraq and unsettle the middle east guaranteeing the loss of Afghanistan, Iraq, and the entire middle east. If fighting terrorism was his goal he would have stayed in Afghanistan or gone after Saudi Arabia or Pakistan. He lied to our troops and us from the beginning. Nothing and no one can stop this now. It is beyond anyone's control and it will get a lot worse. He did this so he could further his idea of a new middle east order. Of course lying all the while and whipping up as much support and frenzy as he could in the media and minds he controls until he can fully implement his plans. However they were doomed to fail from conception!
At this point it behooves him to continue to ignore reality and continue to whip up a frenzy so he can continue staying the course in order to further prosecute his new middle east order. However it has already failed and no one can turn it around.
We are all shamelessly being used so Bush can follow his plan for new order and he will not be denied. I wrote this 3 years ago but it is more obvious today. Let me know what you think? I won't get any deeper but it gets worse from here.

hi, AAP--
well, everything you said seems to have already been played out except a march into totalitarianism which seems at least implicit in your outline and almost inevitable in the current events.

after all, Bush can't possibly carry out his [or Cheney's] NWO in 8 years -- so they've GOT to stage a coup to stay in power indefinitely.

and the pundits debate Hillary's cleavage.
Congress goes on as if nothing is happening.
and we're seeing the world from the wrong side
of the looking glass.

Bush has the North American Union set to be upon us in 2010, this will fall in with all the secret bills, of which you mentioned one.

I believe Martial Law will overtake us before Bush leaves office.

The New World Order is coming, it will make Orwell's 1984 look like a teen dance.

Ok, let me take a crack at this. For one thing, I don't think it was George W. himself who had plans for a new world order. For one thing, he just isn't smart enough to even know the definition of totalitarianism let alone who to go about implementing it, not without help, that is. I think this plan was hatched a long time ago with some people in the background that we aren't even seeing or hearing from. Bush got a lot of help to get elected, and someone had to have enough pull with the Supreme Court to pull off the selection of George in the first election. I think George was the perfect pawn and whoever it was that hatched this plan knew it. In fact, I think they have him believing he really is in charge.

George isn't smart enough or sophisticated enough, IMO, to pull off a marshall law coup. Not that this will prevent him from trying...I just can't see it work because his own Republican Senators, especially those who are running for office themselves won't permit it to happen. George can write all the executive orders he wants, but it doesn't mean that he can implement them. I also can't see the Supreme Court giving up its power and handing it over to George Bush in order to pull this feat.

I think something is going to give very soon one way or another. Either we are going to get hit by a terrorist attack (with the knowledge of Bush before it will happen) and he will try this little power play, or someone whom he trusts will blow the whistle on him before it happens.

Of course, this is all cloak and dagger stuff and just an opinion, but I still have confidence that our country can only be pushed so far, before we all gather together and fight back. Bush's popularity is too low to get any kind of real support from the American people to get away with this. At least I hope so.

Sorry the commment was so long, Two Crows...I just can't seem to get that three sentence comment thing down. ;-)

hey, m e--
please don't apologize for the length of your comments. you've read some of mine on your blog, right?
and this issue doesn't lend itself to [or merit] 3 sentence comments.
xx
now, on to your comment itself.
I hope to god you're right -- that the congress and supremes won't allow it to happen. I think Cheney or Rove or Bush or whoever WILL try.

my fear is that it will work-- simply because it has worked before. 11 million people died in concentration camps and [I think] 75 million people worldwide died before it was all over.

and everyone thought Hitler was a joke -- an idiot looking for a village.
the world underestimated Hitler and he almost took it over. may we not make the same mistake.

Thanks--

The difference I see between Hitler and Bush, though, is that Bush isn't as popular as Hitler was. I think he's banking on a large number of Americans supporting him again like they did in the last attack on 911. He isn't going to get that this time, because we can all see what he did with that--using it to go to war. I do believe he's delusional and I have the feeling after he leaves office we're going to find out all kinds of strange things that he did, the temper tantrums, the psycho behavior...it will all come out and I hope all the secrets are revealed, too. There are an awful lot of skeletons in those White House closets.

hey m e
'I do believe he's delusional and I have the feeling after he leaves office we're going to find out all kinds of strange things that he did, the temper tantrums, the psycho behavior..'

he and Cheney both are. I, too, hope it all comes out eventually.

and, you're right about the lack of popularity. I hope that's enough to stop them.

before 9/11 his support was already flagging -- then it SHOT up when the planes crashed. another attack of that magnitude might send his numbers climbing just long enough to pull it off. I hope not--

in today's climate, tho, there are those who believe that he, personally, would be audacious enough to pull the attack himself.
given Cheney's ability to do things while leaving no fingerprints behind along with the fact that he certainly has the brains AND the delusions, to do it, HE might send thousands to their deaths in order to pull a coup.
he would perceive it as 'for the greater good.'
^^^
just -- oh god -- I hope I'm wrong and they really aren't capable of getting away with what I fear they're doing.

TC, the way I'm approaching it is this. I'm living my life as though it's not going to happen, because, except for publicizing the possibility, there is little I can do to prevent it, and if it does happen, we'll probably be snaffled up before anyone actually realizes it's happening.

hey, TC--
I just hope my conclusions are wrong. and, I wish I didn't know as much history as I do.

If Chimpy declares martial law, I believe the footnote years from now will read:

With this declaration, the State of California declared the Federal Government to be illegal, and withdrew from the United States. Other States followed in rapid succession...

Thanks for your visit...Robert is a love isn't he? This was a wonderful post...(although it's a shame that we are getting good writing out of this misfortune)...but it really makes a person think. I too have always had a thing about Hitler and what made him tick. This country is definitely in for a bumpy ride.

hey J R--
I wrote something similar to your idea [only in reverse] in June of 06 on my first blog.
try this link, if you're interested:
http://aacardea.blogspot.com/
basically, it suggests that several states could legally secede from the union and form their own country. hell, I'd be magnanimous and let em take
Bush along and grant him the office of dictator- for- life if they want to.
I moved that post to the top so it's easy to find over there.

hi, Sumo--
yep. Robert is a sweetie.
and I've found SO many cool blogs since he started his world roundup!

and, yes, I wish there were more sweetness and light to blog about, these days.
in fact, I got fed up and had to switch gears today-- or go crazy.
