The country has been misled -- again -- this time by General Petraeus as well as the Bush Administration.

President Bush has counseled the country to have patience, that he would 'listen to the general' when it came time 'make a decision' regarding bringing the troops home or staying in Iraq.
President Bush was able to say all this with confidence because he knew ahead of time what 'General Betrayus' report would consist of.

Petraeus stated that his report is his alone. However he and his staff have been phoning the White House politicos daily to coordinate their messages. He used what the Washington Post has called, 'Funny Math' to compile his figures. For instance, car bombs don't count as acts of war and such deaths are not counted among the war dead. Bullets to the back of the head count as assassinations, however bullets to the front of the head do not. This sounds like the games I used to play when I was seven years old and the playground echoed with shouts of, 'No fair! Didn't count! Do over!'
But Iraq, tragically, is not an elementary school playground.

Here is some math that is not funny:
On September 11, 2001, Osama bin Ladin killed 2,974 US citizens. Twenty four people went missing that day and are presumed dead. One person, so far, died of lung disease which has been attributed to breathing the dust at Ground Zero. The total official number dead due to bin Ladin’s actions is: 2,999.
Since then, the war in Iraq, a country which had nothing to do with 9/11 and had no stockpiled WMD's, has killed 3,774 US citizens and over one million Iraqis.

Therefore, I respectfully ask, ‘Who are the terrorists?’

Hi two crows!

What upsets me the most about Gen.P is how he is more concerned about keeping his shiny stars than telling the truth that would protect his troops. He knows if he doesn't say what Bush wants him to say, he'll be fired like his predecessor. So, instead of having the guts befitting a General that has been chosen to lead his troops, he throws them under the bus and carry's on with the work of George Bush.

hey, M E--
Petraeus did exactly what anyone who has been following what's going on in Iraq/Iran/Congress/the White House knew he would do. all this was set up last spring to play out exactly this way.

so, who was it designed to fool?
fools.

hi, TC
yup.

I have to laugh. I said fighting the terrorists takes a back seat to fighting the bigger threat of our time, Bush.
Just a sample! 9/11 was not the defining moment of our time, that event has not occurred yet ,up to now and all our horror Bush has been, but ?
I honor all the victims of 9/11 and our nation and the world as we battle so called terrorists but primarily the negative consequences of Bush's new societal, middle east, and world order.
9/11 was just one tragic act that began with the implosion of the Soviet Empire. Ancient tribal rivalries (often wrapped in religion) have inspired nationalistic forces fighting to regain historic territories from the Balkans, to Africa, to the Middle East, and beyond as we all know.
This is true! However, 9/11 was allowed to happen so Bush could get us and the world behind what he calls a war on terrorism.
Think of all the powers he has been given and how he has abused them in his real goal of new societal, middle east, and world order.
9/11 was merely the excuse used to prosecute his new middle east and world order.

Crooks and Liars:

Call the Capitol switchboard at 202-225-3121. We need to let our representatives know that Bush cannot attack Iran. GW will not go away quietly as his disastrous term comes to an end. I think most of us believe Iran is the next target on Bush and Cheney’s to-do list. Kristol, the equally insane Ledeen (read this madness) and all his Neocon, warmongering pals are pushing the White House at every moment to make the attack happen.

Flood the Switchboards Before It's Too Late.

Got this from John Amato at Crooks and Liars, he has credible info that an attack is coming soon, and is asking to spread the word to bombard their swithboards.

Hi two crows-

I just heard this morning that Bush got an 8 point jump in the polls regarding how he is handling the war in Iraq...so it looks like Petraeus fulfilled his mission. He got the sheep back in the corral.

Republicans keep pushing the Appea to Honor argument for staying in Iraq.

That is, not enough U.S. soldiers have died in Iraq for us to be able to bring them home. We need to keep them in Iraq for as long as it takes to complete the mission or else we dishonor those who have already been killed....

Makes no fucking sense but that's what they're running with.

I have a bad feeling that at some point in the future Bin Laden will yet again mastermind the flying of planes into a building and we'll once again launch a war on a country (Iran) that had nothing to do with it.

Meanwhile, if Bush actually went after Al Qaeda and Bin Laden rather than bog us down in Iraq, we'd be a lot safer today.

hey, folks--
sorry for my absence but I've been busy, busy during the days and we've been being treated to Tampa Fireworks the last several nights. [50 strikes in 5 minutes night before last which, I'm told, isn't all that high. looks pretty terrifying to this little midwestern transplant-- and I was worried for Molly and Huck's safety.]

anyhow--
oh, yes, AAC--
it was a given the moment Bush/Cheney took power that we would invade Iraq -- it was only a matter of when and under what pretext which bin Ladin so conveniently provided -- assuming that's what actually happened.
^^^
Larry --
in this Alice-in-Wonderland world, do you know what makes sense to me?
Russia exploded a bomb that packs the punch of numerous [I forget how many] Hiroshima's and leaves no radiation or fallout -- so we do the Bush-logical thing: we attack Iran.

hey! it makes as much sense as our being attacked by Saudis who were based in Afghanistan -- so we attacked Iraq.

btw-- I'm not suggesting we attack either Saudi Arabia OR Russia. I AM saying that Bush will probably use Russia's actions as an excuse to do whatever he damn well pleases.
And Congress will roll over and play dead, again.

hey, M E--
Beam me up, Scotty. There's no intelligent life on this planet.
What does it take to wake Americans up?

hi, Poli--
amazing how the politicos trot out the argument used in Vietnam to justify the war in Iraq.
'peace with honor' didn't work then, either.
