Musing

Hey, folks --
Sorry I've been out-of-pocket -- have been phenomenonly busy.
Will be posting the whole sordid story on scattershot later.

Meanwhile, I just had a thought: I'm getting a tiny taste [ about 1 part per 300,000] of what folks in Iraq are going through.
My community is on a boil-water ordinance for the next 3 days. Water was turned off for several hours today and we SHOULD be back to normal sometime on Friday.

So, what did I do today? Spent the day out on my patio building a desk. Came in covered in sawdust and filthy and smelly and I can't take a shower. ewwwww! just be glad you can't smell me.

Of course, I had ample warning and filled bottles with water in advance. And I know when to expect this all to end. And I've still got electricity and A/C and lights and stuff. And, while I was outside I didn't see one soldier or one gun or see anyone blown up in the street.

OK -- forget I said anything. This isn't like Iraq at all.

It's sort of like the numbness we felt after the Virginia Tech shootings when we realized they get much worse every single day in Iraq. Well, not that bad, but you know the connection I'm trying to make.

yeah, Robert, I know.

I guess the point I was trying to make is how no comparisons between here and there can be made.

we have inconveniences sometimes. they have hell.

hell could erupt here one day. if Bush has his way, it will be soon. that's what's got me so scared.

If only more Americans were concerned about the lives of the Iraqis.

And to add to what you said, you don't have to cover yourself in hijab when you leave the house lest some madman fanatical attack you for exposing your ankles or hair.

yeah, anajo--
can you imagine a woman in any country in the middle east crawling around on her patio, in full view of the street, while she built a desk?

I know _I_ wouldn't want to attempt to use a circular saw while wearing a hijab.

Thank God it isn't as bad here as Bush created in Iraq. I just have to wonder how much worse it will get for the entire middle east.
Also for america and the world as the environment continues to worsen. What happened down there anyway? How is the desk by the way?

hi, AAP--
it's so frightening when the entire world turns on the whims of a handful of people.
what is that about 'absolute power?'

the desk is done. still feeling intimidated about putting the desk-complex together. but, I'm trying to have everything situated for when the geek comes to add the new computer to the network. [a diy project I'm scared to take on.]

and, btw, speaking of INCONVENIENCE -- how's your hand?
if not having water is inconvenient -- and it is, [what do you do before fixing lunch when your hands are dirty?] what's it like not having a hand to fix lunch _with_?
