Congress Notices the Calendar

This email arrived today. Among other things, it said:
^^^
Bolten and Miers have ignored congressional subpoenas for nine months and thumbed their noses at Congress and the American people.
We must never cede the rights of the Congress to the Executive.
["Never"??? What else have they been doing for 13 months?]

I am pleased to inform you that today's legislation allows Congress to bypass the Attorney General (who has stated to me this week that he would not enforce contempt) and immediately take action in the courts.

Today, Congress finally defended the Constitution and our rights as an equal branch of government [emphasis mine].

Yours truly,
Congressman Robert Wexler

First, Congress is finally waking up to its dismal approval rating and the fact that this is an election year. Seeing as how the entire House and 1/3 of the Senate come up for a vote every other year, I don't know why this seems to be coming as a surprise to these folks.

and, Second, that last word says it all, doesn't it?

While I commend Wexler and the work he's been doing-- his has been a voice crying in the wilderness for far too long.
For the rest of Congress, the jury is still out, as far as I'm concerned.

perhaps we need more stem cell research. We need to grow more spines, especially in Congress. You may be interested in my blog where I posted an excerpt from Iacocca's book "Where Have Our leaders Gone"

WHAT a great idea! --developing spines for these folks.
how the WH scares em while the voters don't seem to never ceases to amaze.
shouldn't it be the other way round?

I think I've read that excerpt you're talking about and posted it here or on my other blog not long ago.
it's a really great statement---

I was scrambling around trying to decide what to post about for Friday and I almost chose the same topic as this one. The only reason I didn't, the NIU shootings came up and I decided I would write about that.

It's about time the House stood up against that whiney bunch of babies. I laughed when I heard Bush say he was going to cancel his trip to Africa if they didn't send him the bill he wanted. It reminded me of the threats we'd get from our parents..."Don't make me stop this car!"

Too funny. Maybe our Democratic Senators have finally reached puberty and they are going to start mouthing off to big daddy, knowing that there's nothing he can do about it. Ha!

I was really pleased to hear that. He has been notifying daily lately of at least percieved victories. The tide is changing. Lets hope it makes a difference
It is worth noting that despite Repugs and Bush threats he took off to Africa empty handed.
That was defeat, contempt, and disgust, on his face, not his traditional smug, wise ass, smirk. Makes me smile! every time he screws things up here he leaves the country. AAARRRGGGHHH!

hey, Mary Ellen --
it reminds me of a toddler threatening to hold his breath till he gets what he wants.

my suggestion: let him hold his breath.

how refreshing is that?

That actually made me feel good. Besides to escape hs failures I was wondering why he went to Africa at this time until I wrote about today and I found out he was hoping to get the Black vote for McCain. I just hate this two faced disingenuous crap!

Amen, TC! On Bush's trip to Africa, I have some terrible news. They won't keep him.
