I'm still needing to pinch myself to be sure it's not all a dream. And, I'm seeing the same sentiment all over blogsville [except in isolated pockets-- but I generally try to stay away from vipers --so I don't see too many of those].
If this is a dream, may none of us wake up.

Well, I take that back. We all will need to wake up come late January. There will be lots of work to do and we'll all need to pitch in.

Obama & team will do the heavy lifting, but they'll need us to remind the masses that this will take time and include pain [though not as much as we've experienced over the last 8 years, I would guess.]
Still, we will all need to remember that he inherited a huge mess and will need time to get us out of the woods -- and WE need to not turn on him in 2012.

For now, though, we can hit the snooze button but-- isn't it lovely to wake up in the morning and not want to do that?

Me too! I'm still pincing myself. Is this but a dream? Like you, if this is, please don't wake me up.

You're right, that there's still a lot of work and I'm sure that Obama will disappoint us in some ways.

But for now, like you, I hit the snooze button... ahhhhhh..

And yes, God Bless America! (Said the atheist.. lol! )

pincing... that should be "pinching"... I've been so much on pins and needles and now so excited that I haven't even had the patience to proofread!

Happy day. Happy happy day.

hi anajo--
yes, of course he will -- disappoint us at times. there will be times we disagree deeply with him.
but, I believe he will always approach his decisions with forethought. and won't that be a nice change?

I have yet to find a politician [or anyone else] that I agree with about everything. and, guess what? that doesn't automatically make them a criminal [as Bush is and as Cheney is and as Rove is -- and on and on] and it doesn't make them an idiot [as Bush is].

so, I'll disagree with Obama [as, in fact, I did when he voted on the FISA issue] -- but I voted for him anyway because the alternative was unthinkable.

TWo Crows,

I'm still crossing my fingers on the FiSA bit... I hope that Obama and Pelosi and many other Democrats will restore and respect privacy. We'll see..

hi, anajo--
I'm very concerned about that, too.
I also think the people who made the decisions to roll over and play dead when the gov't asked them to commit crimes should be held accountable. otherwise, we will have no protection the next time that happens.

It's good that we realize the election is not the end of the beginning. It is the beginning of the beginning. So much to do.

I am heartened by Obama's people compiling a list of Bush's executive orders to rescind.

You are correct! We can gloat for a little while, but we need to be careful not to get the detractors too angry. As during McCain's campaign, they will be driven by anger and fear for some time to come. We need to try and get those folks on our side. In 2012 there is a chance the right wing could run someone like Bobby Jindal for president... he might be more repressive than Bush-Cheney when it comes to matters social. My guess is they will go with someone who isn't quite as far to the right, but who knows, it could be someone as odd as Sarah Palin.

But like Dave says, the election of Obama is the beginning of the beginning. To begin things on a positive note, we need to include everyond. And even with as much venom as we have seen from Republicans toward Obama, I believe if they give him a chance they will find there are definitely some things to like about him.

I also don't agree with everything he says, but I do find myself thrilled that it is he, and not one of very many other possible democrats, winning election. I think Obama is a natural leader, and I believe people will gradually come to his side.

hi Snave--
gloating is good to a point. and certainly understandable under the circumstances.

AND we need to understand that we have a big enough tent to accomodate, well, if not EVERYONE -- at least most people.

I have a cousin who's not speaking to me at the moment. that's sad.
I've emailed her several times but, though I did try to be gentle, I guess I questioned her beliefs about Obama once too often.
but, what do you do when she keeps spouting that he's a 'muslim who wants to take over the country'? :(

along with everything else we need to do, our whole country simply needs to heal. we're coming out of a civil war, I think.
at least I HOPE we're coming out----
