From the Huffington Post:
Laissez-Faire Capitalism Should Be as Dead as Soviet Communism -- Arianna Huffington
"It's time to drive the final nail into the coffin of laissez-faire capitalism by treating it like the discredited ideology it inarguably is.
"But most Republicans are still refusing to see what's right in front of them. Especially Bush, our CEO president, who lays the blame not on the failures of the marketplace but on past administrations and corporate greed. "Wall Street got drunk," he says. Maybe so, but who made the last 8 years Happy Hour, and kept serving up the drinks?"

Btw-- another article in the same edition states that the current unemployment rate is the highest in 26 years. And who was in charge 26 years ago? Reagan and a Republican Congress. Just sayin.

Arianna for President!
Damn that US birth requirement. The Constitution has a flaw there.
Arianna should be the sole exception, though.
I have an inordinate amount of love for that woman, or so my wife tells me.
hi, Dave--
I'm with you. Americans certainly don't have a lock on wisdom. In fact, far from it.
Acourse, Arianna, being wise, probably wouldn't want to be president. And who can blame her?
hi, libhom--
yeah, back when Reagan was touting 'trickle-down economics' it seemed so easy, to me, to see through that charade. it was just one more way to see that the rich got richer at the expense of the poor.
and, here we are at the logical conclusion of that policy. no one wins. surprise!
Yes, Arianna is far too wise to want the job.
I would say anyone who WANTS to be president should be automatically disqualified for that same reason.
That would complicate the process, but it would also give us better candidates.
No sane and compassionate person craves that kind of power.
hey, Dave--
there was a sci-fi story years ago [sorry, I don't recall the author] that included that idea.
the prime requirement was that the government's leader could not want the job. I think it may have been determined by random rotation-- but I don't remember for sure.
