A Dark Horse's War Edge -- By E. J. Dionne Jr.

From the Washington Post:
Mike Huckabee, who just stepped down as Arkansas governor, is the brightest star among Republican presidential dark horses.
[I]t's not only because he is mastering a conservative form of triangulation blending religious conservatism with policy pragmatism.
Huckabee, if he chooses to run for president in 2008, has another asset: While front-runners John McCain and Rudy Giuliani have placed large bets on the success of President Bush's Iraq policy, Huckabee has maintained what you might call loyal distance.
^
And that's why a faithful Republican with no ties to Bush's Iraq policy could be very popular come 2008.

Watching the GOP trying to find a candidate in 2008 should prove interesting. I think you make a good point. An outsider would have the best chance, because the insiders are corrupt and bear the mark of the shrub.

I think no GOP'er will stand a chance in 08.
whoever they run will be a moot point.

Huckabee was on Imus last week promoting his book.

He is boring, says we don't need to fix healthcare, we need to fix health and I don't think stands a chance.

Watch out for Romney. He is a right winger in sheeps clothing.

TC, I think you're absolutely right that the GOP has no real chance in 2008, as long as the Dems don't shoot themselves in the foot by some means too extreme to imagine. If the Dems put up a retarded chimpanzee with terminal flatulence, America would probably elect the monkey.
