The Neglected Problems
Richard A. Clarke, author of 'Against All Enemies' has hit the nail on the head again.
I wonder if he gets tired of playing Cassandra to Washington's Trojans.
Here is the full text of his article.

Hi Two Crows

Sorry (OT)

In response to your question about Halliburton and internment camps, a previous post of mine has loads of info:

Internment Camps being built in the United States

Just Close your Eyes while it Happens Here

Now on to the illegal immigrant roundup

U.S. Raids 6 Meat Plants In ID Case

A google news search and/or web search for Swift Raid will turn up much more

Swift raid: We can do better than this

Clergy urges members to lend support

While most of their congregations were not directly impacted by Tuesday’s immigration raid on Swift’s E.A. Miller plant, religious leaders from all corners of Cache Valley are calling on their members to support the relatives of those who were.

“The human cost here is tremendous, whatever your political feelings,” said the Rev. Ruth Eller of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Logan. “This affects all of us in the community.”

Like most other churches in the area, Eller said St. John’s will take up a special collection at Sunday’s service, with the contributions going toward families in need of supplies and other forms of assistance.

Dean Quayle, a spokesman for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, said materials in the local bishop’s storehouse and at the Deseret Industries facility in Logan will be made available to people who may need them.

“The LDS community is rallying around this cause,” he said. “It’s a chaotic situation. A lot of kids are involved who are totally innocent of any difficult situation in their lives.”

Those in the clergy say the groundswell of support for the region’s Hispanic community isn’t meant to undermine the efforts of law enforcement but is derived from a sense of religious duty.

“To see families torn apart is something that seizes our hearts,” said Pastor Corinne Thul of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in North Logan. “We feel like the needs exist and we can reach out as Christians with compassion regardless of anyone’s stance on the immigration issue.”

Anyway, that should get you started. The article I read I think was on ThinkProgress but I haven't been able to find it yet.

Basically parents are being deported and the kids are being left behind. There's something like 150 kids being held in camps being "processed" while their parents are sent back to Mexico. The Kids are U.S. Citizens so it makes for an awkward situation all the way around.

It's a tough spot.

My position on illegal immigration is as follows:

1) Go after the corps/businesses that hire them in the first place. If there are no jobs for illegals they won't come for that work. The corps love the cheap labor. The overall effect depresses wages in our country and increases social service cost.

2) Expedite the process of being able to come to America to work legally.

Right now immigrants from Mexico, Central, and South America pay upwards of $5000 to get taken acrosss the border by a Coyote.

The U.S. should charge $5000 for the opportunity to come work here. The workers should be given tax ID's and made to pay taxes. They would not be granted citizenship but over time they could apply.

It's more complicated than that ofcourse but I don't want to take up too much of your post.

Bottom line, I am really sick of people, especially wingnuts, blaming Mexican Immigrants when it's the businesses that encourage and want the cheap labor. So many large corps advertise in Spanish now. They want that market and they want that labor.

Repugs need to come to terms with that. But they won't. They'll defend the corps and blame the immigrants. It's such an easy thing to do.

Clarke's article is indeed excellent. In the meantime, Sean Hannity at FAUX News said that the Democrats have no plan for national security. He neglected that implementing the recommendations, ignored in the GOP 109th, of the 9/11 Commission is in the Dems initial agenda. That does not go far enough as reading this article clearly points out, but it's an improvement.

oh. my. god.
thanks for the info, Polishifter.
fwiw--this is exactly the scenario I envisioned [and blogged about] sometime last year on my old site.

at the time, I noted the fact that we had done this sort of thing before--tearing families apart--back when slavery was legal. I had thought those days were behind us.
but, I guess we'll always have gutless wonders in our midst who put their bigotries ahead of their 'family values'.
***
and, yeah, TC--
leave it to FAUX News to ignore the little details like: waiting for Congress' session to open before sniping at em. and starting with what's already on the table before moving on.
now, I just hope they DO move on.

I left a comment on your post [at the appropriate place, this time :) ]
left some links and references to related sources that might interest you.
[one was the milgram study--do you know it?]

paired with the info on your blog, it makes for terrifying reading.

Hi Two Crows,

I will check it out.

Don't forget the internment of the Japanese...

Bush would love to intern "enemies and those that provide aid and comfort to our enemies"

And we know who his enemies are...us!
