I just brought in the mail. I received a postcard addressed to 'Postal Customer' that invited me to an 'event' where I could get a passport.
I don't know about you but this concerned me on several levels:
First— Though I've had a passport before, I've never before received an invitation to apply for one. Among other things, the documentation required include: proof of citizenship and proof of identity.
Second— Just yesterday, I read that the government can confiscate my laptop at the border and copy anything it wants to from it.
Put those two things together and it begins to feel like Big Brother wants to 1] know where I am and 2] get it's hands on my laptop.
Right now, just getting to the border costs more than I want to pay. And, given what's happening to our currency, it also costs so much to travel abroad, I'm certainly not inclined to go there.
And, now the government is offering to make it easy for me to get a passport??? What's going on here?
I'd be more than happy to go to a border if the trip was one-way— but somehow, I don't think that's what Cheney/Big Brother have in mind.

Before I check this out I just watched a phenomenally beautiful well choreographed video about the universe you will want to watch. Do you go to D.K Raed's
hi, Jim--
thank you SO much for the reference to D.K Raed's redheadedwisdom.
the vid was astounding.
I've emailed to everyone I know.
hmmmm ... I think both of you saw further into that vid that I did. I will have to watch it again!
re: passport invitation ... very odd. and to think just last yr, they were so overloaded with passport backlog, people were waiting 8-months & they ended up having to waive the new passport requirements for Canada & Mexico until the backlog was plowed through. maybe they hired so many people to process the backlog, they are now looking for something to do? It does feel creepy to think they might've been going through expired passports & sending invitations to apply for a new one. Or, the proof of citizenship requirement might link the whole invitation project to ICE. Creepy.

You are entirely welcome! That video and music was cool! You are right to be suspicious. I think last week I heard they can take your lap top and everything. It is getting bad and as I keep saying, will get a lot worse and I am afraid soon.
This week Feds knocked a door down barged in gagged the scared Mother in Law and shot the 2 dogs as they tried to escape. They apologized because they were following drugs but the drugs were not theirs and it was the Mayors.house. Imagine! They said they did the right thing. You may have heard that! I want to scream AAARRRGGGHHH!!!
hi, dkr and welcome to PP&D--
as to the invitation to get a passport -- I hope it is something as innocent as trying to keep their staffs busy. but, given what our gov't has been up to, lately, I kind of doubt it.
trying to flush out non-citizens seems a more likely scenario. and the folks in our gov't are either so stupid [or think we are] that all they have to do is send us a postcard and we'll show up???
just like they think people will voluntarily deport themselves -- or so WaPo says.
uh huh.
hey, Jim--
'I think last week I heard they can take your lap top'
yup-- WaPo wrote, last week that Bush just signed that little invasion of privacy into law. and they can keep it for a 'reasonable amount of time'. and guess who determines what 'reasonable' is.
xxx
and, no, I hadn't heard of that incident.
they invaded the MAYOR'S home? what town was this?
someone didn't do his homework. I wonder how long he kept his job?
still, in a way, that's almost a positive thing. let this sort of thing happen to a few gov't officials --let them see what the rest of us are living through-- and maybe it'll begin happening less often???

I Know, sickening isn't it? The same ass hole who decides what is a threat to "his" version of America.
That home invasion was at the Mayor's house and the most egregious Nazi crap I have heard yet! check it out

They shot and killed his dogs as they tried to run away too then tied up and gagged his Mother in Law. Thank God he was in his underwear and was upstairs or they would have shot him too. The mayor is calling for an investigation but the police just said the smugglers set him up and they did the right thing. Boy are we in trouble!
well, OF COURSE the police did the right thing -- if we're living in a police-state.
I hope the mayor hoists em by their balls.
