Once Again, the Party is Deemed More Important Than the Nation

From the Washington Post:
GOP Sees Positives In Negative Stand
by Alec MacGillis and Perry Bacon, Jr.

Three months after their Election Day drubbing, Republican leaders see glimmers of rebirth . . . .
After giving the package zero votes in the House, and with their counterparts in the Senate likely to provide in a crucial procedural vote today only the handful of votes needed to avoid a filibuster, Republicans are relishing the opportunity to make a big statement. Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Tex.) suggested last week that the party is learning from the disruptive tactics of the Taliban, and the GOP these days does have the bravado of an insurgent band that has pulled together after a big defeat to carry off a quick, if not particularly damaging, raid on the powers that be.

Oh, that’s rich. They’re taking a page from the Taliban's playbook, now!

And, ‘Rep. Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.), said “[Our] core principle that suffered the most in recent years was fiscal conservatism and economic liberty. That was the tallest pole in our tent, and we took an ax to it, but now we're building it back."’

So, they can dump fiscal conservatism overboard when a failing president leads them into a disastrous war based on lies. But when it comes to saving our country from the catastrophic economic policies that have been in force since Reagan, suddenly they find their “principles” again?

This is no more and no less than pitting their party’s interests against those of the nation. Again. And we’re not supposed to notice?

I don’t think so.

Yesterday I reiterated how you are purposely confused for selfish personal interests. In this instance as in every single instance since the advent of Bush and his hyper partisan politics.

As a result the right thing once again is not even a thought let alone a consideration. Republicans want to do what is right for them and their party interest not what is right for you and your concerns.

Democrats want to do what is right for their party. We can be thankful that, that just happens to pretty much fall in line with what is right for average Americans and our America.

There in lies the problem! The right is only concerned about furthering the interests of their party as the left has to or fear obscurity!

As a result it is a fight between to conflicting principles fighting for dominance and you are not even a concern. As such the right thing will never get done for you.

Let me try this again:
I've just found your blog through such a roundabout way, I don't remember how I got here!

I couldn't agree more with almost all you write. Today's post says it all. Talk about Chutzpah! The Republicans should be doing penance behind bars. Instead, they're out there telling the very people their bloody, greedy actions have nearly destroyed that they know how to fix it! Unbelievable.

I looked for an email address for you so that I could ask if I can link your website to mine. Please let me know if that's all right. You can contact me through my profile.

(I've made a mess of things on my latest post because I messed with the html even though I don't know what I'm doing! Help is on the way, though, so it should be fixed soon.)

hi, Jim--
you're probably right that Dems as well as Rethugs want what's best for their parties.

But, when the underlying _principles_ on which the party is founded are designed to help people as opposed to harm, even kill them, I don't make the distinction.

as to what the Rethugs are doing, it is amazing. I read an article by Kathleen Parker earlier today in which she was sniping at Obama. I never saw her go after Bush this way.
in fact, back when he went on vacation for the 1st 6 weeks he was in office, she acted as if all was right with the world.

aamof, we probably WERE better off as a result of his spending 1/3 of his time in office on vacation.

meanwhile, McSame, of all people, is trying to gut the proposed plan.

this is the same guy who 1] said our economy was doing just fine, 2] left the campaign to run back to DC to deal with the meltdown [while avoiding a debate] and 3] could do NOTHING so went back to the campaign.
and THIS guy wanted to be president?
