Carter = Cassandra//Reagan -- Not So Much

Wish Upon A Pump -- by Richard Cohen
Perusing the Sunday newspapers with plagiaristic intent, I come across an article about who's responsible for the current energy debacle. Politicians are mentioned along with the amazingly shortsighted auto executives and the oil industry itself. Names, lots of names, are dropped, everyone from the current President Bush to the previous Bush to Clinton, but not a mention of the culprit in chief, Ronald Wilson Reagan -- still, after all these years, the Teflon president.

Teflon seems to be the new attire for most of our Presidents lately...except for Bill Clinton. He's been blamed for everything short of receiving a bj in the...oh wait, nevermind. Funny thing is, that was the only time I can remember in years that we had a great economy, peace, fewer abortions, and an all around feeling of hope for the future. Go figure.

Oh, and regarding gas prices, my brother just bought his wife a "Smart Car", those funny looking things that look a fancy golf cart. He found one that was used and only had less than 3,000 miles on it. It's not good for long trips, but more for commuting back and forth to work or small in-town trips. It only runs on 3 cylinders (like me). I'm curious to see how much they like it.

hey, Mary Ellen--
and don't forget Carter who Reagan blamed for everything that happened between 1980 and 1988 -- and how the MSM ate that up.

I just googled the smart car site. I THOUGHT they looked familiar! when I clicked on 'find a dealer' up popped
19820 US 19 N
I live in a retirement community whose
address is: 19769 US 19 S

if I wasn't askeered of crossing the highway, I could drive there in my golf cart. it's directly across the hiway from me!
so, somebody bought one new and ran screaming back to their SUV, huh? all the better for your brother.

wonder how much those babies cost?
and if I could find a buyer for my Tacoma. . . .

two crows- I'm going to call my brother this week and I'll ask him how much he paid for his. I know it was used, and he got a good deal on it. I heard there's a long waiting list to order a new one. Since it only runs on three cylinders, it's a bit of a choppy ride, but for small trips, it's great. In Illinois, I'm not so sure it would be good for winter driving. I don't think a set of snow tires would work for that car, maybe I'm wrong.

I'll give you the scoop on what they think of it and if it was worth the money.

They are all guilty of playing their childish self serving games and allowing a crisis to happen. Now we are in the beginning of many crises and none of them will be avoided but will have to be dealt with by whoever is elected.
Reagan is the father of this entire mess here in the middle east and around the world Bush is just the latest to pick up the gamut and McCain has been picked to finish it!

hi, Jim--
'xceptin McCain WOULDN'T finish it-- he'd just prolong it [as in the infamous 'we can stay there for 100 years' quote]

it rather reminds me of some other folks who talked of long-term plans--
remember the 1000-Year Reich?

Teflon is my favorite flavor! And chocolate, of course.

This issue has been driving me crazy--Carter was incredibly unpopular, but he truly tried to stem this country's addiction to oil. And he just got kicked in the nuts for his efforts.

hi, Dr. Zaius and welcome to PP&D--
how about chocolate melted in a teflon-coated double-boiler? yummm!

hey, dguzman--
yeah. Cassandra didn't fare much better than Carter. no one ever believed her, and she was often persecuted for her predictions.

she turned out to be right and people promised to believe her next time. when the next time came, they didn't believe her and the pattern kept repeating.
sound familiar?

I just keep finding historical precedents for what's happening these days.
and cringing.
